Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon 2016 | Stating My Intentions

This upcoming weekend means one thing – it’s Dewey’s time! For those who don’t know, Dewey’s is a 24-hour readathon which does exactly what it says on the tin – it’s a readathon that lasts 24 hours. Everyone starts reading at the same time, whatever that time is in their timezone, and tries to stay awake and reading for as many hours as possible.

I took part in Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon last year, and you can see my TBR and my Updates post from that event. Last year I identified the one issue with Dewey’s – that for me in the UK, it starts at 1pm on Saturday afternoon which exactly coincides with when I normally visit my aunt’s house for the afternoon. However, this year is extremely different because I no longer live at home. This means I will not be visiting my aunt on Saturday and will (hopefully) just be hunkering down and reading all day, minus a few hours’ break to watch Strictly Come Dancing of course!

So, it being this weekend is extremely convenient for me and I fully intend to participate 100% in Dewey’s this year. In fact, I think I need to get along with some of my #Victober challenges too, since I’ve mostly abandoned them this past week whilst I impulsively re-read Donna Tartt’s The Secret History. I certainly intend to try to read all of The Importance of Being Earnest and perhaps some of either The Mystery of Edwin Drood or The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which were also on my TBR for that.

I’ve put together this tentative TBR stack which I can dip into as I see fit – there is absolutely no way I will get all of these finished and I don’t plan to but hopefully I’ve got enough variety here to keep me occupied and entertained throughout the 24 hours:

  • Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
  • The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde
  • The Mystery of Edwin Drood by Charles Dickens
  • The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
  • Saga Volume 3 & 4 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples
  • Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

So that was my potential TBR for this year’s Dewey’s 24-hour Readathon! Who else is doing the readathon this weekend? Anyone have any tips for success during this short readathon? I’ll probably update throughout the day in a blog post here and also over on Twitter – I’d love to hear from other participants.
