August 2017 | Wrap Up

How on earth is it already September?! This year is going far too quickly for my liking, and I can’t believe we’re two thirds of the way through 2017. I smashed my Goodreads goal already but I’m still trying to complete the Book Riot and Around the Year challenges and I’m not running out of steam yet. There are also some great readathons and readalongs happening lately so, all in all, I’m feeling pretty damn good about how my reading is going this year. Let’s take a look at how August went, shall we?

In August, I read a total of 8 books – 7 fiction and 1 non-fiction, amounting to 2223 pages in total, and, of these, 3 books were re-reads*.

In terms of format: 6 were paperback and 2 were audiobooks.

And as for genre, very broadly speaking, 1 book was young-adult/historical, 1 was action/adventure, 1 was mystery, 1 was historical/fantasy, 1 was non-fiction/memoir, 3 were sci-fi/graphic novels.

Onto the books themselves…

I’m also currently still reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy. In fact, just assume I’m still reading it until I say otherwise; it’s gonna be a while, people. But I’m on the home stretch now since I’ve hit the 1000 page mark and have less than 500 to go. (I’m so concerned about not losing steam with it that I’m carting this all the way across the Atlantic to take it with me to DC/NYC – this is what I call dedication.)

Elsewhere I’m in the middle of reading the second of the ‘Memoirs of Lady Trent’ series, The Tropic of Serpents, and it will handily also fit the challenge of ‘animal in the title’ side-quest for The Reading Quest so I hope to finish that before the readathon ends on Sunday 10th. Likewise, I borrowed the second Discworld book, The Light Fantastic, from my local library via Overdrive so hopefully I’ll fly through the rest of that before I forget what the hell is going on… because that can be a very real problem for me with Terry Pratchett’s books. It conveniently fits a Reading Quest challenge too, for the ‘respawn: a previously DNFed book’ challenge – it’s almost like I planned it, isn’t it?

This next week I’m heading off on holiday to the US this upcoming week (needless to say I’m so excited!) but I’m also making sure to load up my Kindle with plenty of ebooks that fit the challenges on the challenge board as I hope to read a lot on the downtime during my trip – that should kick my August reading off quite nicely.

So that was my month but how did your August reading go?
